Ce soir encore j’entre au Johnny, mais bientôt c’est le Johnny qui entre en scène pour orchestrer ma douce ivresse. Johnny est maquillé Irlande, mais ce n’est pas un artifice – éclats de rire, anglais, Guinness. Johnny est tzigane : ses artistes anonymes me plongent de la nostalgie d’antan à l’exaltation de l’instant – U2, Cranberries, Guinness. Johnny est dompteur à ses heures tardives, sa foule chante en coeur, ma tristesse féline bondit à travers ma pinte enflammée. A mon tour je crache le feu : RPPP.

Maman m’obligeait toujours à partir en séjour linguistique. Au Johnny Walsh, j’ai compris que ces sacrifices n’avaient pas été vains. Après une ou deux pintes et un shot de Jägermeister, je suis toujours prêt à chanter en cœur le refrain scandé par le groupe qui bombarde la salle de décibels. Et parfois, je comprends même ce que je raconte ! J’accoste alors une adorable étudiante, le tout en franglais, qui m’explique qu’elle est venue chercher un peu de chez elle dans ce paradis de la bonne ambiance. Comme je la comprends.

J’avoue que la perspective de retrouver les plaisirs de mon voyage à Dublin m’a conduit à sous-estimer les risques que je prenais. Accoudé sur le comptoir en bois, souriant béatement aux serveuses, mon compère n’a pas été beaucoup plus prudent. C’est pendant le concert que l’alcool a porté ses coups les plus violents. Au “Last Order”, nous savions que nous étions condamnés mais nous nous sommes dressés une dernière fois et fièrement nous avons voté à l’unanimité RPPP.

The quintessential Irish Pub which is owned and run by an ex-pat Irishman, who is often to be found performing live Irish Folk Music and playing the guitar in his own pub. Johnny Walsh’s is probably the most popular bar with the anglophone population of Lyon. If you’re hankering for the sound of the English language, this is where you’ll find it. All the staff are either British or Irish, as are a good percentage of the customers. The Guinness is probably the best you’ll find outside of Ireland and the pub has the atmosphere of a real ‘local’. There are frequent live music concerts, with Irish Folk being predominant. The staff organise many events for their clientele. Ski-trips in winter, a cricket team in the summer, and many others.
